Microsoft held their official launch for Office 2010 on 15 June in the form of a Foursquare meetup in Martin Place. This is the first time I’ve seen a major corporation use Foursquare for marketing purposes in Australia (please, do correct me if I’m wrong) and since I’m a total #4sq addict as of late, you couldn’t keep me away.

For the first 110 attendees who could prove to be the #4sq Mayor of their workplace, there was a goodie bag with a copy of Office 2010 Home & Business Edition, an Office Mayor t-shirt and an Office USB stick. I was lucky enough to get one. Thanks Microsoft! =D

I’ve since installed Office 2010 and I really like the improvements they’ve made from the previous version. It took me a while to get used to the ribbon-toolbar thingie, but now that I am, I love some of the button changes they’ve made for it – they are a lot more relevant for my usage. I’m also really glad that they removed the circle button from the top-left hand corner, as it never really worked for me.

The overall design of the interface is a lot sleeker and I think that the new desktop icons are pretty classy (and I loved the matching cupcakes they had at the meetup!)

I’m really only a frequent user of the Outlook and Word applications, so I haven’t formed an opinion of the other apps in the suite yet.

I’m loving Windows 7, and now I’m loving Office. I really must be a MS geek!

Being photographed by a professional is definitely a strange experience, but it’s great to get the opportunity to do it before the wedding so that you can get a feel for what it will be like on the day.

You can see a selection of the photographs on her blog here: Wonderland [melbourne engagement photography]
